Hands-On Experience Using A Strimmer – Explaining Parts, Types and Usage

Undoubtedly, strimmers have become a blessing in disguise for those who frequently experience grass cutting in hard-to-reach places. I have used one, and I can confidently say that with the help of sharp strimmer blades, not a single tuft is left uncut. Also, cordless strimmers have a battery fitted in them, reducing the worry of sockets. Whether you need to trim grass around trees or remove grass that grows through cracks in pathways, you need to get a garden strimmer.

A Look At The Parts and Types of A Garden Strimmer:

Are you anxiously waiting to know about my experience of cutting grass with something other than a mower? Well, I would love to talk about it but before that, take a look at the different parts of grass strimmer. It would help you get a better understanding of what I have gone through!

Grab a seat as we are about to spill the beans!

Note

Only the important parts are explained for your ease!

  • Trimmer head

One of the most important parts of a grass strimmer is a trimmer head. They are used to trim grass and cut weeds. In addition to this, there are different types of trimmer heads such as:

  • String trimmer heads

  • Bladed trimmer heads

  • Fixed-line heads

  • Bump head trimmer heads

Pro Tip:

As a tip, make sure to match the thread size of the line trimmer with a trimmer head! It will help in cutting grass much more effectively!

  • Strimmer Wire or blade:

Strimmer wires are directly used in cutting or trimming grass. Also, known as a replacement grass trimmer line, it is a nylon string that has a thickness ranging between 1.2mm to 3mm or more. As it rotates fast, it cuts grass on its way. Similarly, these nylon strings are also replaced by blades. A strimmer with blades is mostly used to cut thick or dense grass!

  • Strimmer lines

As far as a strimmer line is concerned, it is a nylon string connected with a strimmer head. As long as this line is working, the strimmer's head keeps moving - continuously cutting grass.

Also, there are a few types of strimmer lines - mentioned as follows:

  • Star-shaped strimmer line

  • Twisted strimmer line

  • Multi-sided strimmer line

Do you know?

A strimmer line has exhaustive work to do. Therefore, it needs to be replaced after some time!

  • Engine Or Motor

The thing that powers and runs to help cut the grass is an engine. Most of the engines run on petrol. Fuel tanks are placed in these machines that supply fuel to the engines. Also, there are machines known as cordless strimmers or battery strimmers that run on motors. Similarly, there are electric strimmers that also run on motors!

  • Pull start

To manually start the engine of a grass strimmer, it is used. To use it, you just have to pull the cord until you feel that the engine is turned on.

Pro Tip:

If the engine is not turning on after several tries, check with the choke.

  • Harness bracket

Safety precautions while using a garden strimmer are essential and cannot be ignored. Some strimmers have high pressure which needs to be handled with care.

For this purpose, a user needs to wear a harness bracket and make sure to adjust it based on body requirements.

Personal Experience of Using A Grass Strimmer

Without a second thought, the moment I started using a strimmer for trimming the grass under the hood, I knew it would be a game changer. For a recap, excessive grass had grown under the shelves in my garage – due to its location with the garden. I was quite worried about it as it was welcoming insects. Every tool of mine was becoming useless. A friend of mine recommended I buy a grass strimmer and the very next moment I went to buy the best cordless strimmer in town.

Take a look at the steps that I followed while using it:

  • Unbagging of the Cordless Strimmer

I opened the box and carefully took out my new grass cutter. As I unbagged it, there were numerous parts attached to it - as mentioned above. Also, just to let you know, I bought a cordless strimmer that runs on lithium-ion batteries.

  • Checking the Battery Percentage

As I unpacked the machine, I immediately checked its battery level so that I could start using it. There was enough battery to cut the grass beneath my garage shelves. One important thing that has to be considered is that not every strimmer has a battery in it. Some need fuel while others need electric current. As far as the electric strimmer is concerned, one needs to make sure the wire is long enough!

  • Wearing the harness bracket for safety

Have you ever thought about what may go wrong if a trimming line with over three thousand revolutions per minute is mishandled? Also, what if a protective gear is not worn? For this purpose, I wore the harness bracket that helped me get a better grip on the machine.  Along with this, I wore rubber shoes and gloves while using the strimmer. I made sure that I had no loose clothes on me to avoid any mishaps!

  • Trimming the Grass Under the Shelves

After turning on the machine, I started moving the machine based on the directions of the grass. As it was a narrow place, I made sure that the cutting blades did not strike with the shelf. After an approximately five-minute exercise, there was no grass in the garage!

I hope my experience helped you understand the way a strimmer can be used for cutting grass – especially in narrow spaces!

Conclusion

To sum up, the use of a strimmer has become a necessity for those people who are worried about cutting grass in areas where a lawn mower does not work. With a head, blades, line and an engine, a strimmer can do wonders in trimming grass. Regarding my experience, using a cordless strimmer to get rid of grass under the shelves of the garage was one of the best experiences of my life!
